100 Cols Rest Day 2 Pau

A welcome rest day in Pau today. The hotel here is a very comfortable change from the tent! After a well deserved lie in hotel breakfast consisted of a selection of cereals, pastries, meats and cheeses coffee and bread with a variety of spreads. The first task for the day was to go out and look for a replacement camera. The Nikon 3300 compact which I brought with me was dropped on day 5 and failed to operate again. After looking around the shops it was clear that there was not going to be a camera store open. Then while visiting the supermarket to buy some detergent and sunscreen (and beers!) I noticed a camera on display in their front cabinet. This small Fuji Finepics was just the ticket EU69! It was their last one. Then some shopping for a freewheel hub for my rear wheel, but lucked out there as the bike shops do not keep these as spares. The mechanic at the shop I visited cleaned my freewheel hub and it is now operating OK. Should get me through to the finish of the trip :-) Lunch consisted of a bagette and coke plus pastry and back to the hotel for a beer and an afternoon nap. After a nap it was time to give the bike a quick clean. For dinner Damian and I found a lebanese fast food cafe down a back street and for EU5 we had a very tasty kebab. We have had a few riders leave the tour in Pau and a few new ones have joined. Tomorrow is the start of the serious hills with the first day of the Pyrenees.
